Subject: IMPORTANT — 9th Annual KULĀIA Hoʻolauleʻa CANCELLED Due to Expected High Winds

Aloha mai kākou,
As of 8:15am Tuesday, September 22, 2026 Our KULĀIA Hoʻolauleʻa is CANCELLED.
It is with heavy hearts that we share this news: after closely monitoring the weather, the KULĀIA Hoʻolauleʻa Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 9th Annual KULĀIA Hoʻolauleʻa, scheduled for this Friday, September 25, 2026, on Ala Mālama Street.
The latest forecast calls for northeast winds of 25 to 30 mph on Friday, with gusts up to 50 mph, continuing into Friday night, along with isolated showers and thunderstorms. In winds like these, tents can be torn loose and become dangerous projectiles. We cannot safely set up tents, stages, and booths for our vendors, performers, and guests in these conditions. The safety of our community always comes first.
What this means:
•     The event on Friday, September 25 is canceled, along with the planned road closure of Ala Mālama Street.
••     Partners and sponsors: The Committee will follow up with each of you directly regarding your sponsorship and any contributions already made.
•     Updates: Any further news will be posted on our social pages — Instagram @molokaikulaia and Facebook Molokai Canoe Festivals.
To our partners, sponsors, vendors, entertainers, volunteers, officials and community who stood behind us and this year’s theme, Kīpapa i ke Ala — Paving the Path — Mahalo Nui Loa. Your support means everything to this event and to Molokaʻi. This decision was not made lightly, and we look forward to celebrating together with you next year.
